Use Save As...
Even if you don't use Microsoft Excel, most modern spreadsheet software, including Open Office and Google Sheets, will provide the option to save or convert to Microsoft Excel. We won't explain how to do this for all third party software out there but here are some tips:
- Usually the Save As... tool provides a File Format option
- For Google Sheets, use File menu > Download > Microsoft Excel (.xlsx)
- Be careful if there is more than one Excel choice - make sure to select the .xlsx one
Use a converter app
Most files can be converted to .xlsx using one of the many free file converter programs online such as Convertio or Smallpdf.
Before using any such program always check its privacy compliance meets your obligations.
Copy & paste
Even when a file cannot be saved or converted into .xlsx, its data can usually still be copied and pasted into our templates. For example from:
- Microsoft Word table
- many PDF formats
- ODS files
